Cosmopolitan Housing Association
Tenant zone : Gas Safety

The Association is reminding all of its residents to ensure their gas applicances are checked every year on an annual basis as it is an important legal requirement.
The reason for this is that an inspection can spot if an appliance is leaking Carbon Monoxide.  Carbon Monoxide is an invisible, odourless and tasteless gas, that can damage your health and in the worst case cause death.
Carbon Monoxide can ultimately kill.  In the UK, about 20 people die each year in their homes from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

Please Note:- A small number of residents have failed to allow staff access into their homes for work to be carried out.  By denying access to your home, you could be putting both your own and other people's lives at risk.

Cosmopolitan Housing Association ensures that gas appliances installed at each of its homes are serviced at least once every year.  This is to ensure that appliances are operating safely and correctly.

To help you we've made our gas servicing information available for download in digital PDF format here. In order to read it using your computer you'll need some kind of PDF reading software. This information is designed to increase your satisfaction that all gas appliances and installations are serviced in the correct manner. We recommend Acrobat Reader from Adobe*.

New Gas Installer

A new gas installer registration scheme has been set up in Britain from April 2009 to replace the previous 'Corgi'.  Capita have been appointed to run the scheme and it will be called 'Gas Safety Register'.  All approved gas engineers will have the Gas Safety Register Logo.
The Association must make sure that pipe work, appliances and flues provided are maintained in a safe condition and subject to an annual safety check carried out only by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Always check the engineers ID card.  All Gas Safe registered engineers have an ID card with their license number and a photograph.  The licence number is easily verified on the website or by phone and gas safe will get back to you with confirmation of the engineer's name.
Anyone can find or check a Gas Safe registered engineer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online at http://www.GasSafetyRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
If you suspect a gas appliance isn't working correctly, turn it off and report it to Cosmopolitan on 0808 100 2578 immediatley so they can contact a Gas Safe registered engineer for advice.
If ever in doubt, you can call the National Gas Emergency Service on: 0800 111 999
More information can be found on their website: www.GasSafetyRegister.co.uk
