Merseyside Housing Market Renewal News

Wirral MBC, along with Liverpool and Sefton is part of the Merseyside Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder, NewHeartlands, a 10-15 year Government initiative aimed at restructuring failing housing markets, tackling the causes of low demand and abandonment.

As well as providing new homes for rent and sale, Cosmopolitan HA is also working with the Council to address the problem of empty private homes in the borough.  Wirral Borough Council wants to tackle the issues of blight and dereliction in its neighbourhoods caused by vacant privately owned dwellings, by using Empty Dwelling Management Orders, new legislation recently introduced by central government, which allows the Council to take over the management of empty properties.  It is also looking to promote better management of privately rented property by means of a voluntary private sector leasing scheme.  In this scheme, Cosmopolitan HA could let and manage empty properties on behalf of private owners in return for a management fee, bringing properties back into use and reducing the problems caused by empty homes.  Cosmopolitan HA is currently discussing this approach with the Council.
