Cosmopolitan HA is developing 20 new homes for rent and sale at Aveling Drive, Banks and is working with the local community to ensure that the new homes make a positive contribution to the neighbourhood.

 

 

Currently under construction in Egerton,Skelmersdale are nine 3 bed family houses on the site of a former derelic pub 'The Owl and Pussycat'.  The development is opposite the local primary school and work has taken place to engage with the children there.

 

The school was visited by Frank Olchowski of Denovo Design, the architect for the project and he gave an interactive talk to Year 3 pupils on wildlife gardens and the children were asked to design their own wildlife garden.  Children in groups of 6 showed their plans which included plants and flowers to attract insects and birds.  Each group did very well and it proved very difficult to choose a winner.  The school were presented with a bird house to put in the school grounds for somewhere for the wild birds to nest.

 

Year 5 pupils attend a talk on eco-houses.  The children were shown various building projects including brick, roof tile, sheeps wool insulation and recycled newspaper insulation.  The children researched their project very well and their designs included green roofs, timber cladding, wind turbines, solar panels and rainwater harvesting.

 

Work will continue with the children at the school as it is planned to visit again and carry out a Site Safety session which would highlight the dangers of playing on a building site, ensuring that the children stay safe while the build is taking place.

 

Cosmopolitan Housing has also been in touch with the local residents group and the local Police to look at ways of engaging with the older children in the area.
