Cosmopolitan Housing Association is a traditional Registered Social Landlord.  Established in 1969 as Liverpool and District Student Housing Association, the organisation has undergone several name changes, most notably toYoung Persons Housing Association, before adopting its present name.

 

In early years the organisation concentrated on the development and management of accommodation for students and young people, but the securing of a stock transfer in Halton in the late 1980s enabled it to reposition itself as a general needs housing provider across an increasing geographical base.  It was from the housing association that the Cosmopolitan Housing Group structure was formed on 1st April 2003.  The Group created sister companies to Cosmopolitan Housing Association, one for the development of student and key-worker homes and the other to undertake commercial developments (Commercial Enterprises Ltd.)  This ring-fenced risks within each of the respective organisations, protecting the social housing assets within Cosmopolitan Housing Association.

 

The association now owns and manages over 2,500 properties in Liverpool, Wirral, Halton, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens, Warrington and West Lancashire.  The growth that Cosmopolitan Housing Association has experienced over the years has been organic, and with some limited exceptions, is fairly widely dispersed across the local authority areas in which the Association has a presence.  The areas where the Association has a more concentrated level of stock is in the Halton Lodge and Ellesmere Street areas of Runcorn in Halton; an number of larger older properties in the Sefton Park area of Liverpool; and stock combined with a higher level of regeneration activity in the Lodge Lane area of Liverpool and Evolve neighbourhood management area of South Sefton.
